Day of Tragedy
I do not have a story of heroic efforts. I do not know of anyone that was directly involved with the crash. I was however effected by this tragedy. I did not go into shock, but into a state of confusion.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am serving a mission at the Orlando Temple(Florida) of our church. My wife and I arrive a the temple real early in the morning. We are assigned to do sacred ordinances in the temple. The outside world is left outside the doors of the temple. However, the day of the tragedy, it turned out differently. As people came into the temple, after 9AM, they started to relate what was happening in New York. At first I thought it was a small plane that hit the World Trade Center. A little while later someone said it was an airliner that hit the building. Then someone came in and said another plane hit the other tower. My goodness!! What is going on? Mind you there is no other means of information coming into the temple. I would have to wait until 1:00PM until my shift would be done.
I was assigned to be at the front desk, for the last one and a half hours, to greet patrons as they came in. The stories that were relayed from that point made it so much more unbelievable. The Capital was on fire. The Pentagon was on fire.
Another plane crashed outside of Pittsburgh. Each person that entered the temple were solemn and their faces reflect their concerns. They spoke softly and they were fearful as to what will happen.
Only when my wife and I drove to our home did we hear the whole story. We drove home in silence and then turned on the TV to see further news reports. We could not watch anymore. Our hearts and minds went to those who were killed and hurt in the crash. We prayed for the families that lost their loved ones. We know that there is a life hereafter and we hope that our God will take of those that lost their lives in New York, Washington,D.C. and Pittsburgh.
We will have to stand together and to stay Strong!!!
Thank you for letting me express my feelings.
In the meantime, Stay Strong!!!
